History
She Screams Without Sound was established in 1988 during a year when over twenty Hamilton County women had been murdered by their intimate partners. Alarmed by the devastating number of victims, employees of Women Helping Women and the YWCA decided to do something to raise awareness in the community, and in the Hamilton County court system. A Candlelight Vigil memorial has been held every October since, during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, to honor the murdered women, both known and unknown.
In years past, two events were held on the same date, one at noon and the other at dusk, on the steps of the Hamilton County Court House. For this year's 22nd Annual Candlelight Vigil, She Screams Without Sound: Silent No More is hosting two separate events in October. The kick-off event will take place Wednesday, October 7th, 2009 at Fountain Square. This event will raise awareness about domestic violence, as well as the Candlelight Vigil, which will take place on Tuesday, October 27th, 2009, at the Hamilton County Court House.
